Research:

Simulation of DataGRID's Network

We have built initial simulations of the DataGRID within BeSTGRID using OPNET Modeler. We have also used ACE to migrate captured network traffic from tcpdump into the Modeler simulations. Finally, we used the Application, Profiles and Tasks features within OPNET Modeler to model the traffic using characteristic traffic patterns discerned from the capture data.

Research Output:

Storage Network Planning for KAREN/BeSTGRID, Report to REAANZ, 2009.

Summary of Results:

OPNET Modeler and ACE have been critical in building an initial simulation of DataGRID. While the current network has enough capacity for its load, using Modeler we could identify a potential bottle neck if loads increase in the future.
